Upcoming Spring Common Assessments
As a district, YES Prep will be conducting our Spring Common Assessments March 7th-9th. Students will take two exams each day for two days. They will not attend their elective classes on those days. Common Assessment scores count as their final semester exam grade and make up 5% of their semester average. The schedule of exams is as follows:
Tuesday, March 7th English (AM) Social Studies (PM) |
Wednesday, March 8th Math (AM) Science (PM) |
Thursday, March 9th Make-Up Exams
|
Some tips to help support your student’s success:
- Make sure they get a good night sleep
- They have a good breakfast before their exams
- Come to school with a charged laptop with their charger
- Arrive at school on-time to minimize confusion and stress
We strongly encourage students are present at school the days of their exam. Having to make up common assessments outside of testing days, will result in students being pulled from their academic classes and possibly missing important instruction. We appreciate all that you do to ensure your student’s success!
Spanish Credit By Exam on Monday, March 6th (7th and 8th Grade Only)
All 7th grade students will take the Credit by Exam for Spanish on Monday, March 6th. Any 8th graders who are new to YES Prep this year will also have the opportunity to take the CBE. If students score at least an 80 or above on the exam, then they will be able to earn high school credit. There is an opportunity to earn up to 3 world language credits for high school by completing this exam. By earning these credits, students would also be eligible to enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) classes for Spanish in high school. If you have any questions about CBE or any concerns about your student taking the exam itself, please reach out to the Director of Academics, Taylor Romero, at Taylor.Romero@yesprep.org.

Telpas Test continued
The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is an exam that all EB (Emergent bilingual) students take. The test evaluates how well students perform in 4 domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The test determines their English language abilities. Students are scored as Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or Advanced High. Students will need to score Advanced High in all 4 parts to exit the ESL (English Second Language) program.
Students who are not EBs will participate in alternative activities on campus. Here are our following testing dates by grade level.
