Special Presentation – Slurs and Derogatory Language

This week 6^th Grade students engaged in a special presentation during Advisory on January 12^, 2022. The topic of the presentation was “Slurs and Derogatory Language”. At YES Prep Northbrook Middle School one of our core values is “Kind Words and Actions”. We took an opportunity this week to reset our students to ensure they are aware of actions associated with slurs and derogatory language and the actions that will follow when our policy is not upheld.

Student School Supplies

Parents, please ensure that students are attending school each day with the following essential items:

• Laptop, charger, and headphones
• Pencil and Loose-leaf paper

Student Sleep Schedule – 9 to 12 Hours

Parents, we have been noticing that many students are falling asleep in class and stating that it is due to them staying up at late hours. We understand that it can be challenging to get back to a proper sleep pattern following a break, however it is essential that students are getting at least 8 hours of sleep each night to engage in a full day of academic learning. When students are not getting adequate sleep, the following behaviors begin to show up: Irritability, lack of focus, inability to retain information, and sometimes anger. To ensure that students are fully engaged in lessons, we need them well rested. Please ensure that students are getting between 9-12 hours.
